German Training Field Post in Bohmen-Mahren 1939

Last edited: April 19, 2000

The German Field Post was activated on 15.3.1939 when the occupation of the remaining territory of Czechoslovakia begun and the German protectorate Bohmen-Mahren was formed. The field post service was declared to be a training one (Übungsfeldpost). Each military unit was assigned a six-digit field post number (Übungspostnummer) and a mail routing post office (Postleitstelle - these were in Dresden, Gorlitz, Liegnitz, Oppeln, Regensburg and Wien) that transported the mail between the civil post offices and the training field post offices. The trainig field post service ended on 1.5.1939. Then soldiers´ mail from German units in Böhmen-Mähren was posted either at the civil post offices of the Böhmen-Mähren post or at the new established service post offices of the German post (Deutsche Dienstpost Böhmen-Mähren). The same applied to official mail of military units a few days later.
