EXPONET GUESTBOOK
"...i love this project really. Some days ago I read
carefully the exhibition of "Certified mail in Northern Bavaria 1945". I didn´t know anything about this before. Yesterday I found a so called
"certified letter" offered by a German dealer. This kind of mail was only
possible from 03.09. until 18.09.1945 and only in northern Bavaria.
Without my knowledge got from this site I would not have been able to recognice the value of this letter. You do a great job, really, and I
appreciate it very well. Thank You for this project.".

Astro-Hungarian Army 1914-1918
Dear Visitor, You have reached the first Czech website dealing with Austro-Hungarian
Army during WWI. The website has been based on an excellent text by Mr.
Sedlacek. The Author covers both origin and early stage of the war, he
also prepared detailed overview of Austro-Hungarian military troops and
Navy. The Author extended the text also to topics like national anthem of
the Monarchy, comparison of military ranks or information about weapons. I
have accompanied with illustrations from my postal history collection to
make you more familiar with discussed time. We are looking forward to
hearing your comments, notices or interesting documents relating to the
discussed topics.

Preparation of 9th International Fair Collector 2006 in
Prague has begun |
Studio Filatelico at the fair
Participating for the first time at this year’s COLLECTOR International
Trade Fair, to be held in Prague from 15 to 17 September, is the Italian
philatelic auction house Studio Filatelico in Moncalieri. Mr. Paolo
Gazzera holds philatelic auctions regularly in Milan. In 2005 he attended
the fair for the first time as a visitor, and decided on the spot to
participate in this year’s event as an exhibitor. |
German Post and Belarus Post
return
After a two-year absence, Deutsche Post is returning to this year’s fair.
The postal service of the Federal Republic of Germany is known for
supporting collectors by issuing a special magazine for them and, above
all, by making beautiful stamps and postcards with pre-printed stamps.
After a year’s absence, the Belarus Post is returning to COLLECTOR. It is
also known for publishing beautiful stamps and for its active approach
towards collectors. |
Faithful exhibitors from Great
Britain and Austria
Among philatelists, regular exhibitors at the fair are Peter McBride from
Great Britain and the Austrian auction house Vojta & Peters Briefmarken.
They already filled out their application forms for this year’s fair on
the last day of last year’s COLLECTOR fair. Trevor Pateman from Great
Britain also already registered last year, and he has greatly expanded his
exhibition. |
Biggest dealer from China
Last year, the collector Xu Wei from the People’s Republic of China made
an appearance. He is apparently the biggest collector and dealer of
telephone cards in China. He has even seen through the issuing in China of
a telephone card for the fair. He is registered again this year, and is
planning the issue of a whole series of telephone cards by China Telecom
for the fair in Prague. In the field of telephone cards, Bengt Novén from
Sweden is also returning to the fair. |
Newcomer from Austria
Among the newcomers at this year’s fair will be the Austria company Der Heimatsammler,
which will offer postcards with pre-printed stamps and historical picture
postcards. |
Czech Mint with a larger stand
The Czech Mint has traditionally been one of the fair’s exhibitors. This
year, the mint expects to display a much larger stand than in past years.
Management of the mint has assured the organizers of COLLECTOR that it
considers this fair, right after the World Money Fair in Berlin, to be of
pivotal importance for its business activities. |
Are you interested in exhibiting?
At this time, the organizer is sending registration forms for this year’s
COLLECTOR fair to all of the world’s mints and postal services, as well as
to all past exhibitors. If you are interested in exhibiting and selling at
our fair, which is the biggest collector’s event in Central and Eastern
Europe, please send an e-mail with your address to

With some 200 days before America's once-a-decade international exhibition
opens its doors, Washington 2006 has issued its twelfth in a series of
Member Updates providing up-to-date information about the event that takes
place May 27-June 3 at the Washington DC Convention Center. The Exhibit

SPECIAL SUBSCRIPTION FOR SOLPERA 6.50 KČ
CARD
Collectors of the Czech stationeries were badly surprised by the problems
connected with the "Solpera 6.50” card of 2005. When they found out The
Czech Postoffice (CP) used a great part of the issued cards for other
purposes and did not supply it to the regular customers, which made the
common card a rare piece overnight (in PAC auction of Milan Cernik it was
offered for 2 800 Kc = 90 EUR) the collectors asked for reissue of the card with
the identical paper and same micro line inscription. It is important to
gain as many collectors as possible to subscribe so that the reissue is
sure. We support the collectors´ demand and we may only hope the reissue
will not differ much from the first issue (the same or similar number of
issue, no intentional usage of anything different during the print, e. g.
a different paper, its colour, thickness, colour of the printed stamp,
luminescence), so that another rare piece is not produced. As we know
there were quite many leaks in the past (Solpera´s card of 9 Kc of 2002
with no hologram and the false shredding of CDV1X). It was from the
Ministry of Informatics that our regular reader got the note concerning
the reissue of Solpera´s 6.50 card of 2005. We can briefly extract the
essential points of the answer of Ing. Jiri Rehola, the Director of Postal
Services Section of Ministry of Informatics of CR:
- Only 14 600 pieces of the Solpera 6.50 card were ordered to print to
cover the order of imprints (9 600 pieces).
- The difference ought to have served as a reserve for other possible
imprints.
- Due to the obstacles in the printing house only 9 803 pieces of the
mentioned card were supplied to the CP.
- Part of the issue was used to prepare the sets of the prints of the
commemorative cancels used in January 2005.
- To help collectors to gain the card for nominal price additionally the
CP will offer an extraordinary subscription to the Klub filatelistu (Stamp
Collectors´ Club), stamp dealers… and will prepare a reissue in a
necessary amount.
- To avoid the similar situation in future the CP informed the official
order form of novelties will give a possibility to subscribe the new cards
with the different year printed in their micro line from 2006 on.

The Collectors Trade Fair in the Golden City of Prague
The historical
capital city of the Czech Republic is attracting more and more foreign
visitors. Many of them come to important events, such as the international
Collectors trade fair which is devoted mainly to philately, postcards and
numismatics, and also to telephone cards, minerals, precious stones and
other collectable items. The trade fair with its subtitle ‘An East – West
Meeting of Collectors’ has become the largest collectors’ event in central
and eastern Europe and is held under the patronage of the Union of Czech

Exhibitions at the fair
This year’s international trade fair Collector, which will be held in
Prague from 16th to 18th September, will be accompanied by many
exhibitions. For example, Milan Baše is the author of an exhibition on the
occasion of the 650th anniversary of the coronation of the Czech king
Charles IV as Holy Roman Emperor. At the exhibition, visitors will be able
to see medals, coins, awards and graphic pages associated with the person
of Charles IV. Another exhibition in the field of numismatics will be
modern and historical replicas of minting from the work of the medal maker
Petr Soušek. The philatelist Ludvík Pytlíček traditionally exhibits
treasures from his collection at the trade fair. This year they will be
rare Czechoslovak postage stamps. Karel Mařík has prepared an exhibition
for all who are interested in the enigmatic power and beauty of precious
stones called Why Precious Stones are Precious.

Days of UN and WWF
As we already informed, on Saturday 17 September, WWF Day will be
celebrated for the first time at the trade fair. On this occasion, a
special frank and R-sticker will be made available at the Czech Post
Office stand. At 14:00, there will be an autograph signing session by the
creators of Czech stamps Libuše and Jaromír Knotek and the stamp engraver
Martin Srb. All the philatelic material for WWF Day was created by these
artists. On 18 September, UN Day will be celebrated for the eighth time,
also with a special frank at the Czech Post Office stand and with a cachet
and special postcard at the stand of the UNPA.

from the Urals, will be coming to Prague for the first time.

Novelties of the Czech Mint
The Czech Mint is a traditional participant at the trade fair Collector.
As the director of the mint, ing. Jan Vízek, has informed us, this year it
has prepared two real treats. Visitors will be able to view an image of
the gold and silver medals weighing 1 kg which were issued on the occasion
of the first anniversary of the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU,
and which are now completely sold out. And at the trade fair, the mint
will also initiate the sale of a set of Czech regular circulation coins of
the year 2005 and also a set of Austrian euro coins of the year 2005.

About the fair
The trade fair is traditionally held in the Industrial Palace at the
Exhibition Grounds in Prague 7 - Holešovice on the northern edge of the
capital’s centre. The journey by tram or metro from the very heart of the
city takes ten minutes. Metro line C (station Nádraží Holešovice) and
trams 5, 12, 14, 15 and 17 go to the exhibition grounds. Admission prices
for the trade fair: one-day ticket CZK 60 and a ticket for all three days
costs CZK 100. The entry ticket is also good for the trade fair
Antikvariát. Both trade fairs are open to the public on Friday and
Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00, and on Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00. We
recommend that those visitors who arrive late utilise the HAPPY HOUR. On
Friday and Saturday from 16:00, and on Sunday from 14:00, the admission
price to the trade fair will be a flat CZK 20. Women and young people up
to the age of eighteen have free admission to the trade fair. For young
visitors, the already proven “preparatory course for future collectors”
will be prepared.

EXPONET
... In June 2004 when
Exponet was presented on Japhila site, I understood that this was
something I had been waiting for, a permanent on line exhibition! Suddenly
we could study top collections for free, visit them as many times as we
wanted to, without travelling, and we could compare our own collections to
the on line exhibitions. Later on, when Mr. Gerhard
Hanacek presented his on line exhibition “TSCHECHOSLOWAKEI 1920-1923 DIE
FREIMARKENAUSGABEN IN BUCHDRUCK”, (Czechoslovakia – typography stamps
1920-1923) I could state that the Exponet was “going to be something”!
This was fascinating, I really enjoyed it. Then, when Mr. Henry Hahn’s on
line exhibition ”CZECHOSLOVAKIA - THE FIRST REPUBLIC 1918 – 1938” was
presented this year, 2005, on Exponet, that was for me and presumably for
all CSR I collectors a real “Christmas gift”. I must admit I don’t know
how many times I have returned to this exhibition to study it and to enjoy
it. Also Mr Václav Kostal’s “CSR I - ZEITUNGSMARKEN 1918-1920” and Mr
Georg Wilhelms "DIE TSCHECHOSLOWAKISCHE LUFTPOST 1920-1939" caught my
interest...

Africa Mint at the trade fair for the first time
The Africa Mint from Benin shows that numismatics exist even in Africa.
The mint began to mint high-quality commemorative coins in short runs with
the theme of west African fauna in 2003. This was immediately followed by
a series of coins with famous African presidents in a run of 500. This
year the mint has issued bimetal coins for Benin with the theme of the
Olympic Games in Peking 2008 and to commemorate the visit of Pope John
Paul II, and for Niger with the theme of stopping malaria. All the issues
have a run of 1200. At the stand, Africa Mint will offer a commemorative
coin issued for the occasion of the Prague trade fair Collector.

sale and purchase of postal history, in the occupation during the Second
World War and on the areas of the former Yugoslavia.

Euro coins of Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City
The German firm Euronumix from Düsseldorf will certainly provoke great
interest amongst visitors, because it specialises in the coins of small

only the common circulation euro coins of these countries will be
available, but so will commemorative coins and medals. The firm will be
exhibiting at the trade fair Collector for the first time. In the field of
numismatics, Jean-Paul Andre from France and Münzhandlung Richard Mandusic
from Munich will also be having their premiere this year.

Netto catalogues of Slovak stamps. It also trades in stamps, postal

GEOGRAPHILATELY
Geographilately is a modern collector's trend intent on collecting of the
stamps and entire covers from the single stamp territories. It's collector's
trend where primary is the relation between postage stamp and the
territory for which it was issued and where it was used to pay of the
consignment transport. The word "geographilately" is compound of two words
- "geography" and "philately". For collectors - geographilatelists
connection both of these words mean object of their interest with always
more important postal historical elements. About stamp territories
collecting expansion witness increase of the collectors number and
increase of the awarded exhibits number. Since 1989 year The Association
of collectors of stamp territories around the world GEOPHILA is working in
Czech Republic. Next pages are dedicated to this association and its
activity.

COSMOSS NEWS WITH PETR GINZ STAMP

Press release January 20, 2005
On 20 January 2005, the Czech Ministry of Informatics will be issuing a
special miniature sheet featuring an image of the Petr Ginz moonscape
drawing, with a nominal value of CZK 31.
Born into a Jewish family in Prague, Petr Ginz (1928-1944) was a multi-talented
boy from an early age who wrote for his school magazine. On 24 October
1942, he was deported to the Terezín ghetto, where he continued to write
articles and draw pictures; these have been preserved thanks to a friend
who survived the Holocaust. Ginz’s drawings are kept at the Yad Vashem Art
Museum, Jerusalem.
Featured on the stamp is an image of Petr Ginz’s famous pencil drawing
entitled ”Moon Landscape” – a view of the Earth as seen from the Moon. The
cruel fate of Petr Ginz, who perished in Auschwitz in the autumn of 1944,
was tragically repeated in the Columbia shuttle disaster. Israeli
astronaut Ilan Ramon took a copy of Ginz’s drawing with him into space in
an attempt to fulfill the dream of Petr Ginz 58 years on. On 1 February
2003, however, the space shuttle Columbia exploded, killing all seven
astronauts as the ship re-entered Earth’s atmosphere following a 16-day
mission. The stamp also contains a portrait of Petr Ginz and the text
”Moon landscape – Terezín – 1942-1944, Petr Ginz (1928-1944).”
The stamp was designed by Pavel Hrach and engraved by Václav Fajt.
The stamp (26 x 40mm) and miniature sheet (76 x 116mm) were made by
Poštovní tiskárna cenin Praha, a.s., using a black recess print from flat
plates combined with full-colour offset printing. The miniature sheet
depicts the Columbia shuttle in flight and contains the text ”The Petr
Ginz drawing is owned by the Yad Vashem Art Museum, Jerusalem.”
A first day cover and a special postmark are being issued in conjunction
with the stamp. The drawing on the cover depicts the lift-off of the space
shuttle Columbia. The cover engraving is greyish-blue and was made using a
recess print from flat plates.
The stamp has the catalogue number A 422 and is valid from 20 January 2005
until recalled.
